LOCAL GROUPS MARK 10TH ANNUAL IMMIGRANT FAMILY DAY AT SF CITY HALL, URGE SUPPORT FOR PRO-IMMIGRANT POLICIES

What: News conference and rally

When: Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 10:300 a.m.

Where: San Francisco City Hall, 1 Dr Carlton B Goodlett Pl.

Who: Immigrant community leaders available for interviews in multiple languages including, English, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic.

Why: The San Francisco Immigrant Legal & Education Network (SFILEN) is hosting a press conference to kick off the 10th annual Immigrant Family Day, which will include immigrants from African, Arab, Asian, and Latino communities.

Every year, SFILEN holds Immigrant Family Day as a day of civic engagement where the network gathers clients, members, and families from each district at City Hall to ask the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor’s office to continue supporting San Francisco’s immigrant families by advancing policies that support the rights of the immigrant community.

At the press conference, SFILEN staff and clients will share their stories of success and struggles. Community leaders will urge the Supervisors to support a proposal by Supervisor Avalos to uphold Due Process protections for San Franciscans in the wake of deceptive ICE deportation tactics that hurt immigrant families and further undermine confidence in local law enforcement.

After the press conference, SFILEN clients will visit with the Supervisors to tell their immigrant struggles from 11:30 am until 2:00 pm.

SFILEN is a 13 organization city-funded collaborative that has been steadfast in providing free and low-cost immigration legal and education services in San Francisco for the past decade.
