About Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA)

Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) is a grassroots organization of Latina immigrant women with a double mission of promoting personal transformation and building community power for social and economic justice.

We achieve our mission by:

  • Creating an environment of understanding and confidentiality
  • Empowering and educating our members to provide mutual support
  • Offering trainings to build economic security and leadership
  • Working in diverse alliances on the local, regional, national, and international levels
  • Organizing campaigns to win immigrant, workers’ and women’s rights.

Enma Delgado, Immigrant Rights Organizer | Enma Delgado, Organizadora de Derechos de Inmigrantes 

Enma Delgado was born in Usulután Tierra Blanca, El Salvador, she migrated to the United States in 2003. She joined MUA in 2004 after a friend referred her, she was hesitant to go as MUA was not an employment agency and she was looking for work as a domestic worker. After 13 years Enma continues at MUA, now as an Immigrant Rights Organizer. In her free time Enma enjoys walking along the ocean and wetting her feet as it reminds her of the beaches in El Salvador. She is also the mother of three children.

Sofia Bastida, Lead Organizer | Sofia Bastida, Organizadora Lider

Sofia Bastida was born in El Estado de México, Mexico, she migrated to the United States at the age of three. Sofia was raised in the beautiful state of Washington, where she attended Washington State University and obtained a degree in Political Science and English. As an undergraduate student, Sofia was an active member of the Crimson Group (a support and advocacy group for undocumented students) where she was able to host ‘Know Your Rights’ and ‘Employer Rights” workshops with the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network in rural Northern Central Washington. Sofia has spent many of her summers, talking to orchard and warehouse owners on ways to protect their employees from work ICE raids. Now at MUA, Sofia, spends her time working with Latina Immigrant Womxn fighting for immigrant rights. She is also the Co-Founder of UndocuHealing San Francisco, a group for undocumented youth centered around political education and holistic healing.
