Statement of the San Francisco Immigrant Legal & Education Network (SFILEN) on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

Sam Francisco-Today, the Trump Administration announced the rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. After today, no new DACA applications will be accepted and only DACA recipients whose current DACA expires between September 5, 2017, and March 5, 2018 are eligible to apply for renewal applications until October 5, 2017.

The Trump Administration’s announcement is the latest in a series of xenophobic attacks that began on President Trump’s campaign trail. Immigrants’ rights organizers and advocates, including the members of the San Francisco Immigrant Legal and Education Network (SFILEN), are stepping up the fight to defend the human rights and dignity of all DACA recipients and 11 million undocumented immigrants nationwide. Marisela Esparza, the SFILEN Program Manager, states: “This is a time to unite and remember our past victories which were won by undocumented communities and allies working together.”

SFILEN houses the San Francisco Rapid Response Network, which is composed of a 24-hour phone hotline available to anyone targeted by ICE enforcement activities in San Francisco. In the event anyone in our community is detained by ICE, we will respond collectively with legal and community support. In the coming weeks, we will provide additional resources to the community.
